Job Description:
eBay’s world leading online auction system has a layered Java application architecture running on thousands of servers. This is a scalable yet integrated system that supports very large transaction volumes and has a high degree of flexibility in running a globalized and unified code base that supports sites in many countries and languages.
As a key member of eBay’s Marketplaces Technology Leadership team, the candidate will ensure the architecture strategies are aligned to support development, productivity, scalability, operational excellence and business-technology alignment for the eBay Marketplace businesses. This position will be focused in three main areas: platforms, services and new business initiatives.
This position will provide the vision, leadership and guidance to define the architectural roadmap for eBay’s Marketplaces. Reports to the Director of Systems Architecture and is a key member of the Systems Development Leadership Team for Marketplaces Technology.

• Experience with complex, large scale, highly available systems
• Experience in designing the next generation solutions relating to software frameworks/infrastructure for areas such as caching, tracking, O/R mapping, presentation layer, security, data dependant routing, memory management, connection management, failover recovery, etc.
• Interface with vendors on leading edge technologies and ongoing challenges for areas such as deployment platform, development platform, RDBMS, caching, security, rules engines, JVM, etc.
• Extensive experience in designing and developing frameworks or other infrastructure code that other developers utilize to build large scale applications and systems
• Extensive knowledge and experience with foundational framework/infrastructure areas like OOAD, system layering, patterns, threads, JVM, sockets, JDBC, etc..
• Experienced in workflow engines and event based systems
• Has outstanding communication, presentation and written skills as well as an ability to deal effectively with both technologists and business representatives and to sell and promote ideas across the organization
• Deep understanding of key Enterprise Middleware technologies (J2EE, Web Services, Integration and Application Servers), Open Source model, and various open source components.
• History of initiative and significant software accomplishments
• Deep understand in distributed computing, focusing on asynchronous processing, messaging and service oriented architecture (SOA).

Requirement:
• Grid computing, focusing on improving automation, monitoring and reporting, management, fault tolerance, availability, and provisioning
• Distributed computing, focusing on asynchronous processing, messaging and service oriented architecture (SOA)
• Workflow engines and event based systems
• Asynchronous processing and messaging
• Experience working with Application Architects and Engineering team
• Java programming language
• Business and process analysis, operational modeling, simplification and automation
• Evaluation of new software and hardware technologies in collaboration with vendors and partners
• Business and operational analysis, TCO and NPV analysis, and modeling
• Project Management
• Conducting code and infrastructure audits
• Auditing web site applications and the ability to correlate to PDLC standards.
• Information security audit and compliance initiatives
• Application architecture or worked closely with Application Architecture team
• Been part of a geographically distributed team
• Working knowledge of SOX and PCI regulatory requirements

Education:
• Degree and experience in CS, EE or related field, BS +12 years, Masters +10 years or PHD +8 years
