Primary Job Responsibilities
The Principal Designer is responsible for ensuring that the eBay's Design System maintain the highest levels of quality, efficiency, consistency, and innovation. S/he will produce clear strategic solutions; interpret them into the creation of design systems; and document them into guidelines for global adoption.

The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying unmet platform-wide needs and initiating strategic solutions that will be utilized by worldwide user interface teams. S/he will lead and champion the development of new design patterns and components across flows.

The Principal Designer will initiate research and develop design principles based on the insights gained from that research. A deep knowledge of design trends related to eCommerce and user centered design methodologies is imperative.

A successful candidate will be instrumental in presenting and fostering understanding of interface solutions being delivered as well as in gathering buy-in and facilitating decision making across the organization.

Job Requirements
Minimum 8+ years designing for large scale web interfaces. 2+ years design directing User Experience Creative designers. Online portfolio is required.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have a thorough knowledge of computers and the Internet. They must be high level thinkers that can dive deep into a specific design challenge and come up with solutions that can be consistently utilized site-wide globally. They must have experience working successfully leading Creative Design within interdisciplinary project teams and collaborating with business units, user experience designers and researchers.

Candidates should exhibit a strong understanding of the eBay’s business model and how creative solutions contribute to eBay’s success over time.

They must prove mastery of design principles as they apply to the creation of global/large scale web user interfaces, and practical knowledge of user centered design methodologies. They must have working knowledge of internationalization processes, information architecture, and interaction design principles.

The Principal must be a clear and effective presenter in order to influence important decision makers across the company and maintain credibility for the User Experience and Design group. S/he will influence others to effectively utilize interpersonal skills by setting the example. S/he must be an outside the box thinker in order to turn new ideas into practical solutions and influence others into thinking creatively.

Candidates must work well in a fast-paced team environment providing design direction for Design Leads and Designers working on a wide range of online products all focused on supporting business objectives while enhancing the user experience. They must be organized, have excellent time management skills and be highly detail oriented
